In Hund in Berlin

Yesterday, Habca’s friend Hedda and her mom took us to a nearby Dog Run with a river in it in their car. Hedda is a marvellous swimmer, but then she is a Lab, so she ought to, doesn’t she?

Habca is so much more careful, reserved, sending me her asking gaze and staying near me, while Hedda is all joy and fun, jumping in and out the water, fetching her ball. She is such a bundle of energy, I could hardly believe seeing her going to sleep in the car…

The two girls know each other rather long and they are full of joy everytime they meet, licking their muzzles and wagging furiously. But Hedda grew much heavier in the last months, plus the enormous differences in character, so Habca does not seem to enjoy their play as much as when they were both puppies.
Anyway they had a lot of fun, especially in the huge puddles…

Habca cuddled in my arms on the way back. I wrapped her in her towel, being all wet and sandy, and she went to sleep immediately. All those thoughts like Couldn’t YOU be such a bold normal Lab vanished into thin air and I remembered happily how I just plain love her (and will help her to become more self-assured over time anyway).

  • OH they look like they are having so much fun! It’s been a while since Nanook got to romp in a river with another dog…maybe this October we will bring him and his brother to Virginia to the farm…

though they do get to go swimming here in the ocean…
